Lixea is a spin-off company from Imperial College that has developed an Ionosolv biorefinery process that is unique worldwide using a low-cost ionic liquid. The Dendronic process allows for the discrimination of cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose derivatives and the raw material is waste wood, agricultural by-products, and sustainably grown biomass. Currently, Lixea has a pilot plant in Sweden and is expanding its product development goals to provide waste materials with a new purpose
